Supporting HOAs and Communities With Intelligent Irrigation Systems

Smart Irrigation Systems for Florida’s Residential Communities

For the developers, managers and HOA members responsible for maintaining Florida’s residential communities, water is a big deal. Irrespective of whether you’re looking after 30, 300 or 3,000 homes, you’ll need round-the-clock access to huge amounts of clean and uncontaminated water so that you can nourish and preserve your community’s green spaces.

You’ll also need several pumps to bring your irrigation water up to the correct pressure, as well as the durable lines, smart controllers and carefully-chosen sprinkler heads needed to  irrigate your yards, parks, golf courses, roadways and other communal green spaces properly.

Pump Station

And That’s Just the Tip of the Iceberg

To keep on top of water usage and minimize maintenance costs, you’ll also want an advanced system that reacts to the weather, uses a plethora of high-quality VFDs to minimize energy consumption, and has the intelligence required to automatically shut everything down when a line is accidentally ruptured.

A system that sends you (or your irrigation contractor) text and email alerts when you’re using more water than normal or one of your pumps starts cycling too quickly, and helps you recharge irrigation lakes during a drought. A system that takes care of the little details so that you're free to focus on all the other tasks that are clamouring for your attention.

According to the University of Florida, 75% of the state’s residential water is used outdoors. That’s billions of gallons every day, and with water scarcity becoming an increasingly prevalent concern, it pays to start thinking of new ways to optimize residential irrigation systems.

Our pioneering approach to irrigation design allows us to build systems capable of:

  • Saving you money

Energy, water and routine maintenance all cost money. We can protect your bottom line by making sure your irrigation system always performs at peak efficiency. We can also help you to preempt expensive maintenance work and spot problems with your pump station before they become a nightmare to fix.

  • Meeting your water targets

Some residential communities are given a fairly restrictive water use permit that forces them to conserve irrigation water wherever possible. Others just have to pay through the nose for every gallon they use. Whichever camp you sit in, we can help you eliminate unnecessary waste and keep your usage low.

  • Protecting the environment

Irrespective of whether you’re a committed conservationist or just keen to stay on the right side of this increasingly thorny issue, there’s no getting around the fact that safeguarding Florida’s dwindling water reserves is key to protecting our local environment. Hoover pumping systems are always designed with this in mind.

  • Keeping things running smoothly

Whether you’re a developer, a community manager or a member of the HOA board, you’re primarily responsible for keeping homeowners happy. Our systems are reliable, and give you full visibility of your irrigation performance from any laptop or mobile device, which means you’ll never struggle to keep your community running efficiently.

The Smart Solution

Irrigation Systems Optimized for Florida’s Climate

Florida is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful states, but our unique climate can complicate efforts to irrigate efficiently. While we have access to plenty of water in the summer months, torrential downpours, extreme temperatures, high humidity, harsh storms, sandy soils and increasingly inconsistent rainfall make it hard to maintain lush lawns and decorative greenery.

And winter can be complicated too – low rainfall means that the water table can recede, leaving your lakes or wells dry, and then there are those rare and unpredictable frosts to grapple with.

We’re also seeing increasing pressure from public bodies like the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, who ‘ve made it their mission to preserve Florida’s  limited and dwindling  water reserves by clamping down on water waste.

While it’s possible to combat most of these problems by designing basic irrigation systems that simply inundate high-traffic areas with an abundance of water, we think there’s a better way to manage the green spaces that make our residential communities such an important asset.

That’s why we design pump stations and irrigation systems that are optimized for the peculiarities of our local climate. Systems that use an intelligent control system that’s designed to automatically shut off when water is being wasted or a torrential storm sweeps in.

Systems that use a clever network of variable speed drives and robust technology to boost durability, maximize efficiency and prevent unnecessary waste – allowing you to rest easy, content in the knowledge that you can deliver on your commitment to provide attractive greenery without falling foul of pressure from environmental groups and government bodies.

We also offer unparalleled client support to you or your chosen irrigation contractors: Our team will always be on hand to troubleshoot issues and optimize your system, we’re always looking for clever ways to improve your setup and we go to great lengths to ensure that you never have to stress about your irrigation.

Compared to the ‘set and forget’ approach taken by most pump station manufacturers, we think our approach is worlds ahead, which is one of the main reasons that you’ll find our systems in thousands of residential developments across the state.

Saving You Money

A true apples-to-apples comparison is almost impossible, given the complex nature of irrigation systems, but it is true that Hoover pumping systems often appear to have a higher upfront cost than competing products.

We’re not interested in upfront costs though: We care about total lifetime value, and there, our systems are nearly always more cost-effective. There are a couple of reasons for this:

Firstly, Hoover pumping stations are always optimized to minimize wastage and keep your running costs down. We employ variable speed drives to ensure that your pumps can ramp up and down gradually: saving energy and reducing wear.

We also design systems that are focused on maximising impact and cutting down on unnecessary wastage.

Make Every Drop of Water Count

Now, that’s not to say that we build irrigation systems that leave your grass looking brown or dry. Just that we always focus on ensuring that every drop of water counts – and that your system doesn’t wind up overwatering your green spaces.

We also employ cutting-edge intake filters to ensure that lines stay clear; best-in-class motors for consistent performance and a smart setup that’s designed to limit your exposure to preventable problems.

But it’s our proprietary management software that really sets Hoover pumping systems apart from the competition. Giving you 24/7 access to critical data, Hoover Flowguard software lets you track and monitor pump station performance 365 days a year.

Saving You Stress

Our system is also designed to flag potential issues before they derail your irrigation system – or cause irreversible damage to the landscape you’re trying to protect.

A burst mainline will blow through your allocated water budget in seconds, and a failed )or burnt out) motor will bring your entire system to a grinding halt. Needless to say, these issues are best avoided altogether. Less advanced setups regularly fail to flag the early warning signs of a major catastrophe. Some might tell you when a motor’s completely defunct or your pump station has stopped drawing from a given water source, but you probably won't get the advance warning needed to take preventative action.

Our systems are designed to send you a notification whenever it detects unusual behaviour and/or the symptoms of a more serious problem. Including things like rapid cycling or reduced pressure. This gives you plenty of time to call the experts, troubleshoot any potential issues and effect small-scale repairs.

And the best bit? Alerts are delivered directly to your phone, laptop or tablet. Simply put, you’ll be able to go about your day without worrying about your irrigation system. Content in the knowledge that you’ll see an alert pop up if anything goes wrong.

A Smarter Solution for Property Managers and HOAs

Irrigation Systems That Work for You

We understand that you want to strike a careful balance: Nourishing your landscape without blowing through your water budget or spending an inordinate amount of money on avoidable repair bills.

That’s why we’ve spent decades refining an approach that allows us to build cost-effective, intelligent and highly-efficient irrigation solutions that regularly outperform conventional alternatives that don’t employ enough VFDs, or rely on primitive software that can’t adjust pump/sprinkler performance to account for the peculiarities of your site.  But we appreciate that buying a new irrigation system can be daunting. To help you make an informed decision, we’ve picked out a few misconceptions that often lead people to make avoidable mistakes – so that you can shop with confidence.

GPM Irrigation System Our Irrigation Contractor Will Keep Things Running Smoothly

It’s tempting to buy into the idea that you can successfully outsource responsibility for the day-to-day running of your irrigation system. But in our experience, the overwhelming majority of landscapers/irrigation contractors struggle to stay on top of things.

With a multitude of properties to look after, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll find the time needed to check for the early warning signs of a preventable malfunction or fine-tune the performance of your system.

That’s why we provide best-in-class irrigation management software that’s designed to help them work more efficiently – and the hands-on support you need to keep an eye on what they’re doing.

Close up of blades of grass More Water is Better

While it’s always reassuring to see sprinklers actively irrigating your landscape, you don’t need your system to run around the clock. Overwatering can waterlog your soil and suffocate greenery. It also wastes a lot of money and causes a lot of headaches.

That’s why the University of Florida say that no more than ½ to ¾ inches of water should ever be applied to an area during a single irrigation event – so try to make sure that you’re working with an irrigation designer who'll get to know your landscape and understand how the water will be applied.

Ideally, you want a system that helps you maintain your landscape efficiently, and manage your water use without compromising on the vibrancy or health of your green spaces.

Blue Hoover Irrigation Pumps Irrigation and Pump Repairs are Just How it is

While you should always expect to pay for a small amount of routine maintenance work, some HOA board members and property managers are laboring under the misconception that irrigation systems are destined to break down on a semi-regular basis.

Nothing could be further from the truth, but the majority of consultants and providers are so used to waiting for everything to fall apart that they’ve forgotten how to stop minor issues spiralling into a full-blown wash out or outage.

We focus on helping you to avoid unnecessary repair work by providing the tools and expertise needed to correctly diagnose and fix preventable problems before they completely deplete your maintenance budget.

Efficient Irrigation That

Maintains Landscape Health

Florida’s unique climate makes effective irrigation a necessity, but it’s not just a case of chucking large volumes of water on the ground and hoping your grass stays green.

As well as accommodating the severe water use restrictions set by local boards and improvement districts, your system needs to keep your day-to-day running costs down, minimize energy consumption and maintain the long-term health of your landscape.

Slip up in any of these areas and you’ll start running into serious problems. But there’s no real need to sweat this stuff. Equipped with over four decades of hands-on experience, its relatively easy for us to design and build an intelligent irrigation system that balances cost, efficiency and results.

And to be clear, we understand that the results you’re looking for extend well beyond a superficially green landscape. Like us, you care about the long-term health of your green spaces, and need a system that’ll encourage roots to develop properly.

We’ve been designing systems just like this for over 40 years now – supplying golf courses, sports fields, gated communities and some of Florida’s biggest master-planned cities with the irrigation systems needed to reliably maintain their green spaces.

We’re confident that we can do the same for you. We’re also confident that we can supply the hands-on support, field intelligence and insight you (or your irrigation contractor) need to go beyond ‘just coping’ and start really thriving on a day-to-day basis.

We want to take some of the stress off your plate, and give you a system that purrs along in the background – taking care of your irrigation needs without compromising your budgets or taking up too much of your time.
