Smart Irrigation Solutions For Florida’s Property Developers

It doesn’t matter whether you’re building a five or five-thousand home community; you’ll always need a reliable irrigation system that’s optimized for your development. Keeping landscaped areas vibrant and healthy is key to attracting the right kind of buyer – and ensuring that your development gets the positive attention it deserves.

A dependable irrigation system also minimizes distractions and ensures that your project progresses at pace. Nothing saps productivity like the news that your pump station has fallen over and acres of green-space are wilting in the summer sun. Simply put, you need irrigation infrastructure that you can rely on.

Pump Station

Then There’s the Developer-to-HOA Transition to Consider

A green and flourishing landscape, fed by a proven irrigation system, will be a huge asset when it’s time to hand control of the community over to its newly-formed HOA.

But if your irrigation system doesn’t perform – or you’ve been prone to frequent outages, there’s a good chance that the receiving HOA will kick back when it comes to handover: Demanding that you replace the system completely, or offer compensation to cover future repair work.

Regardless of whether you win or lose this battle, the important thing to note is that an unreliable or under-optimized irrigation system can and will delay the turnover process – causing major headaches and eating into your profits.

That’s why an increasingly large percentage of Florida-based developers are installing reliable and well-optimized Hoover pumping systems straight off the bat.

Irrigating your development can be unnecessarily costly and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Our pioneering approach to irrigation design allows us to build systems capable of avoiding many of the common pitfalls encountered by Florida property developers. In fact, we have a strong track record for producing proven systems that:

  • Save you money

Energy, water, landscaping repairs and turf replacement all cost money. We can protect your bottom line by making sure your irrigation system always performs at peak efficiency. We can also help you pre-empt expensive repair work and spot problems with your pump station before they become a nightmare to fix.

  • Ensure a smooth HOA turnover

For property developers, we know that the HOA turnover process is often fraught with problems. Our systems are built to last and offer incredible efficiency, saving you money in both the short- and long-term. A significant percentage of Florida’s residential community developers now swear by Hoover, not only because Flowguard provides the tools necessary to help them stay in compliance and deliver what their development needs - but because their reputation is protected when they hand over a reliable and robust irrigation system.

  • Meet your water targets

Staying on the right side of your local water management district often means complying with fairly restrictive water use permits. We can help you navigate this minefield without compromising on the quality of your irrigation system or the health of your landscape. Your system will draw the right amount of water based on the mainline size - and ensure water windows are set up to deliver exactly what your development needs.

  • Fulfill your environmental obligations

Irrespective of whether you’re a committed conservationist or just keen to stay on the right side of this increasingly thorny issue, there’s no getting around the fact that safeguarding Florida’s dwindling water reserves is key to protecting our local environment. Hoover pumping systems are always designed with sustainability in mind.

In Business For 40+ Years

A Track Record You Can Rely On

It can be challenging to design irrigation systems that support Florida developments. Our climate is unique, with high humidity and irregular seasonal rainfall, severe storms and frequent lightning strikes that are more than capable of offlining pump stations designed for more moderate environments.

Many residential developments also have to deal with frequent water-table fluctuations, driven by the delicate interplay between our underground aquifers and the highly-variable climate – not to mention saltwater corrosion from the sea breeze, which has been found to reach up to 100 miles inland in some areas.

It’s little wonder that out-of-state systems are prone to frequent failures, and often require far more maintenance than their manufacturers' advertise when they’re installed in Florida communities.

And this is just the pump station maintenance that we’re talking about here: When it comes to doing an adequate job of drawing from a fluctuating irrigation lake, and compensating for the wild swings in both weather and climate, it’s fair to say that the overwhelming majority of systems are ill-prepared for the local climate.

Hoover irrigation pumping systems are different. Everything we do is informed by lessons we’ve learned right here in Florida.

We build using materials that are capable of resisting corrosion. Our designs always consider the need to cope with high humidity and soaring temperatures. We lizard-proof our pump stations, and build in the water protection that guards the system from the irregular and unpredictable rainfall that characterizes the Florida climate.

More to the point, we take great pains to ensure that every residential pump station is  designed to take the local microclimate and water table into account – as well as the specifics of your proposed water source(s).

Which is really to say that when you purchase a Hoover irrigation system, you’re buying peace of mind. The infrastructure, knowledge and expertise needed to supply an irrigation solution that can stand up to the real-world conditions encountered on your development, and deliver a trouble-free transition at the end of your project.

Hands-on Support

We provide round-the-clock monitoring and emergency support as standard. We install our best-in-class Hoover Flowguard irrigation management software on all Hoover pump stations; allowing you and your team to log onto a personalized dashboard, and see how your pump station is performing from any laptop, smartphone or tablet.

Flowguard will also send you automated alerts that are designed to pre-empt the development of serious problems. You’ll know as soon as one of your pumps is rapid cycling or wasting power – allowing you to get in front of potential problems before they take your system offline.

The upfront cost of a Hoover system may be slightly higher than the majority of mass-produced irrigation pump stations, but when you factor in the money you’ll save on preventable repair bills, irrigation outages and endless complaints from both homeowners and committee members, there’s no question that our systems will end up putting more money back into your pocket.

It’s also worth considering the money and reputational damage that you’ll save navigating a litigious turnover process, and the millions of dollars you’ll potentially save by avoiding continuous damage to your new community’s landscaped areas.

Ultimately, we are primarily interested in ensuring that your development is a success. We provide you with the tools needed to turn a good profit and we understand that our reputation depends on our ability to support your efforts so you won’t find us trying to nickel and dime you over costs, or vanishing into thin air whenever you run into a serious problem.

We maintain long-standing relationships with numerous property developers, and want to focus our efforts on growing this pool, instead of making a quick profit on an unsuccessful or unsuitable install.

A Worthwhile Investment

Our pump stations are built to last. We don’t say this as an idle brag; it’s just important to understand the underlying design philosophy that underpins our approach.

Having worked on plenty of pump station replacement or upgrade projects where an HOA has called us in to completely replace an inadequate system, we know that it’s incredibly important to design systems that are up to the job.

Assuming that you’re trying to irrigate a growing community that needs an ever- increasing volume of water, you need a sturdy and reliable pump station that’s designed to scale up as demand increases – and adequately irrigate your development. Irrespective of its size.

Irrigation Systems Customized for Your Development

You will also want a system that’s capable of compensating for any water quality issues and the challenges imposed by your local micro-climate.

We might be biased, but we honestly believe the only way to get a system that ticks all these boxes is to work with a company with the experience needed to properly analyze your development’s setup and design a bespoke system to fit your needs.

Leveraging The Latest Advances In Irrigation Technology

When designing irrigation systems for residential developments, we always start with a blank slate; allowing our in-depth requirement gathering process to dictate the components selected for your system.

That said, there are some things you’ll always find on a Hoover pumping system. These are ‘must haves’ that we’ve pioneered over the past four decades, chosen to improve the longevity and efficiency of your irrigation system. You may find some (or all) of these technologies listed on other people’s spec sheets, but in terms of what our pump stations actually deliver, we know that we are worlds apart from anyone else currently building or installing residential community pump stations in Florida. Here's why:

An Installed Hoover Irrigation Pump Station It's Just a Pump Station

If you allow your irrigation contractor to pick any old system there’s a very good chance you’ll quickly run into significant (and expensive) problems. We’re talking about five- and six-figure repair bills; irreversible damage to your landscape - and reputational damage that’s incredibly difficult to mitigate.

Your new pump station will be the heart of your irrigation system. If it’s optimized for the specifics of your development and designed with Florida’s climate in mind, you’ll be setting yourself up for success.

The Hoover team installing a pump station from the truck Minimizing Upfront Costs Should be Your Top Priority

We understand that you’re working on a tight budget and want to keep costs down wherever possible, but opting for the cheapest possible pump station will generally end up costing you a lot more in the long run.

Ultimately, the best course of action is to work with a trustworthy and reliable partner with a proven track record. Quiz them on their prices. Ask them to explain why their system costs what it does. Are you comparing "apples to apples"? Evaluate carefully what they say because spending a little bit more on a well-designed pump station can save you a lot of money and heartache in the long run. It's important to truly understand what you may be sacrificing or gaining when electing to go with one system over another.

Close up of pod filters on an Irrigation Pump Station All Discharge Filtration is The Same

As with your pump station, opting for low-cost or bottom-of-the-barrel filters can open you up to a world of problems further down the road. Chemical flushes and other treatment options are generally much more expensive than making sure you’re using the right filtration from the very start of your project.

And again, it’s important to note that the right choice often depends on the specifics of your landscape, the quality of your chosen water source and the local environment your pump station will be operating in. A good solution is one that’s tailored to the specifics of your project. Not a generic one-size fits all approach.

Flowguard app dashboard on a laptop Remote Monitoring is All the Same

Intelligent monitoring software like Flowguard provides a constant, in-depth picture of your system. It's a valuable asset that can reduce repair bills, significantly increase the lifespan of your new pump station and your entire irrigation field as well as the health of your landscape. Being able to offer your development’s HOA total oversight of their pump station's performance can also sweeten the deal when it’s time for handover.

With its "eyes on everything" provision, Flowguard drives an equally high level of accountability. Any contractor who wants to avoid such oversight - whether lacking the skills, the workforce or motivation to address problems - will dismiss monitoring software as an unnecessary expense. They're definitely not acting in your best interest.

In our experience, having the data needed to monitor your pump station’s performance 24/7 always proves to be a huge advantage.

Intelligent Irrigation Systems

Designed to Protect Your Investment and Your Reputation

We know that you don’t want to spend a lot of time thinking about your irrigation system: Truth be told, we know that the overwhelming majority of residential community developers would much rather focus on getting more houses up – and establishing their communities in good time.

We also know that every time you have to drop everything and scramble to fix a problem with your pump station, sprinkler heads or decoders, you’re losing valuable money that could be invested in other areas of your project.

Put plainly, irrigation issues are much more common than they should be, and most Florida property developers have run up against some kind of unnecessary issue.

Not to mention bumpy HOA handovers or transitions that involve some degree of animosity and squabbling over the condition of your irrigation pump station.

We think all of these situations are avoidable with the right technology, which is why we’re focused on providing world-class pump stations that are customised to the needs of local property developers.

These pump stations are underpinned by technology that’s designed to give you ready access to data about the inner workings of your pump station – using cloud computing to store mission-critical data about your irrigation on a web portal that you can access from any computer, laptop or smartphone.

And they’re also underpinned by the latest advances in irrigation technology, but their main selling point is their reliability, their ability to cope with real-world conditions, and their cost-effectiveness versus a generic system that’s not designed for Florida’s climate.

Our pump station technology is scalable too: On larger development projects where you need to manage multiple irrigation lakes, or make sure water’s being shuttled around your landscape properly, we can design custom systems that are capable of reliably moving millions of gallons a day.

On the Wellen Park Development (one of Florida's fastest-growing managed communities) the improvement district’s landscape management committee use Hoover technology to keep their irrigation lakes topped up – and keep on top of the proper allocation and movement of approx. 9 million gallons of water every day. Proof that our methodology and technology can be applied to residential developments of any size.
